Welcome to The Cottage at Foxhavens
Some houses feel like buildings…others feel like stories already in progress.
When we first stepped through the front door of this little cottage, we knew very little about its past. We didn’t yet know who had built it. We didn’t know how many seasons had passed beneath its roof, how many holiday gatherings had filled its rooms, or how many ordinary mornings had begun beside its windows.
What we did know was harder to explain.
The cottage felt like a living story, not simply a house. Every room seemed to hold traces of the people who had come before us, with handmade details appearing in unexpected places. Many original features had quietly survived the passing decades. Certain corners seemed to invite questions we didn’t yet know how to ask. The longer we stayed, the more those questions quietly gathered around us.
Who built this place?
What had life looked like here in 1945?
What stories had been carried from one generation to the next?
And perhaps most of all…
What was the cottage trying to tell us?
A Cottage with a Story to Tell
Slowly, the cottage began revealing itself like the pages of a book. Some answers came from old records and family histories, while others revealed themselves through the house itself—worn floorboards, handmade details, forgotten objects, and quiet discoveries waiting patiently to be noticed.
With every answer came another question, and with every question, the cottage felt a little less like a house and a little more like a living record of the people who had loved and cared for it over the decades. That is why this journal exists.
Here, we’ll follow the changing seasons as they unfold across the cottage and gardens. We’ll explore the history hidden within its walls, share the quiet rhythms of everyday life, celebrate old traditions, and document the work of caring for a home that has stood for generations. Along the way, we’ll uncover secrets and the quiet details that have endured since 1945. Most of all, we’ll share the stories.
Some stories belong to the family who built this cottage, some belong to those who cared for it in the years that followed, and some are only just beginning. The cottage’s story began long before we arrived, and if we’re fortunate, it will continue long after we’re gone.
For now, we’re simply grateful to be part of the story.
